The Challenge

The equestrian community had no dedicated digital marketplace for buying and selling horses. Transactions happened through word-of-mouth, Facebook groups, and generic classifieds sites that weren't built for the nuances of horse trading. Buyers had no way to filter by breed, discipline, age, training level, or location in a single search. Sellers had no way to present a horse properly — one blurry photo and a two-line description wasn't enough for a purchase that often runs into tens of thousands of dollars. And with no seller verification or secure payment infrastructure, high-value transactions required meeting strangers in person with cash. The community needed a purpose-built platform that understood their needs.

Our Solution

We built My Horse Trade as a full-featured two-sided marketplace using React and Node.js, shipped in 8 weeks using the ReOps framework. The listing format is designed specifically for horses — sellers input breed, discipline, training history, competition record, age, height, temperament, and asking price, with support for multiple high-resolution photos per listing. Buyers filter by any combination of those attributes to surface exactly what they're looking for. Seller verification establishes credibility across the community before a buyer commits time to an inquiry. Stripe-powered secure payments protect both parties on transactions. An in-platform messaging system keeps all negotiation and communication in one thread, with full conversation history. The entire design was driven by community feedback from equestrian buyers and sellers throughout the build.
